Despite the UK currently being in a national lockdown as a result of the COVID pandemic, today we’re taking the opportunity to look ahead to when some sort of normality (hopefully) returns!
The world of events is a competitive one. Professional caterers, event planners and others are competing to win lucrative contracts, especially with blue chip companies who have large budgets allocated to events, exhibitions and hospitality across the year, from event types such as seminars, shareholder meetings, award ceremonies and gala dinners, to name just a few.
But what is it that makes professionals stand out from the crowd? What can YOU do to differentiate your special occasion from the norm?
Themed events are always popular!
Everyone loves a themed event, and you can dress up almost any event or occasion with a theme. It might be a charity Great Gatsby 1920s themed occasion or even a large corporate Christmas party with an alpine theme. The most obvious themed parties include James Bond 007, masquerade, winter wonderland and traditional Christmas, so why not push the boat out and choose a theme that is less obvious. How about time travellers, zombie apocalypse, London calling or a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, for example – one of these is certain to catch the eye!
Dressing up is encouraged!
If it’s a themed special occasion that you decide upon, whilst you can’t MAKE your guests dress up, you should actively encourage it. Guests in costume most definitely helps to improve the overall ambience of the party, and you can make your message clear on the invitations and on social media in the lead up to the event. Why not even have some sort of prize for the best costume, encouraging people to go the extra mile!
Small touches go a long way
With special occasions and weddings, we’d always say that attention to detail is all important. If it’s the themed party route you’re going down, make sure that everything is in keeping with the chosen theme. For example, if it is a James Bond 007 party, make sure that you are serving Martinis upon arrival. If it’s a Great Gatsby event, ensure that you’re serving Champagne or other fizz upon arrival in the classic Champagne saucer style glasses. And if it’s the alpine or Christmas theme, don’t forget the mulled wine glasses for your guests upon arrival!
Use pro caterers who will present food in unusual ways
One of the most important elements to get right at your themed event is the food. Naturally, the menu needs to be in keeping with the event theme. At the same time, there’s nothing to stop your professional caterers serving the food at the tables in engaging, interesting and innovative ways – something that will get noticed by your guests (and client!). Why not check out our stoneware plates here at Event Hire UK as well as bento boxes, coupe plates, gold cutlery and other tableware which arrives at your event venue in immaculate condition, ready for instant use at your event.
Leave nothing to chance!
And finally, the golden rule! Leave nothing to chance and always have a plan A, B, C, D & E (and sometimes more!). Your client will want (and expect) things to run perfectly. As and when they don’t, there’s no need to panic if you’ve already got contingencies up your sleeve. When all about you are losing their heads, stay calm and carry on!
